Seven-Bullet Monday - April 4, 2022

Here is your Seven-Bullet Monday

1. A quote I am pondering:

"Lighting a fire under someone will never be as effective as lighting a fire within someone." - Bob Teague

Lighting a fire within someone is undoubtedly more challenging than lighting a fire under them. Still, it will produce much more convincing and lasting results and a stronger relationship.

2. A question I am asking myself:

How do I best take care of my body since it is the only place I have to live?

Taking good care of my body in basic terms constitutes what volume and quality of food I put into my body, what exercise I do to burn calories and sustain muscle strength, and the length and quality of sleep I get. If I can get these three right, this extraordinary body I have been given, will pay me back with health, vitality and longevity. It is quite the deal, I just need to make sure those taste buds of mine stay subject to my sensibilities 😊.

3. A book I am reading:

Master Your Time, Master Your Life – Ian Tracy

I enjoyed this book because it challenged me to focus on doing the top three things that create the most significant value for me at work and in life. In doing that, I should also delay starting numbers four and up of all the other things that are demanding my attention until I have finished the top three.

4. My favourite podcast this week:

Chase Your Dreams – New Motivational Speech Compilation

This podcast is about two years old, but if you need some revving up because you feel deflated and underappreciated, then these are guaranteed to have you coming out fired up on all cylinders.

5. Hugh-Tips

Why growing your streams of income is so tax-smart

While most of us work for a salaried income, this is, unfortunately, the most tax-inefficient way to build our wealth. As our earnings increase, so does our marginal tax rate, to the point where we are paying more tax than we are taking home. On the other hand, you are not taxed on investment income until you sell an investment. It is typically taxed as capital gains, which in many countries (certainly Canada and Australia) is half the marginal tax rate. The wealthy figured that out a long time ago, and their wealth only keeps increasing as their investment income now dwarfs salaried income.

6. My highlight this last week

Doing an F45 workout with my daughter

My daughter is a beast when it comes to the gym, so when I got paired with her in an F45 workout this week, I knew I had to up my game. I made it with many a grimace and a grunt along the way, but the sheer pleasure of us both being in the same place and working out together made it very special.

7. My challenge to you for this week

Look out for the mental health of those around you

Even though mental health is now better understood than before, it still carries a stigma, especially when it comes to us having the courage to admit we are suffering in that area. We need to reach out to those we feel might be struggling, letting them know with understanding and compassion that we accept them as they are and will do all we can to help them in their time of greatest need. If we paid a quarter of the attention we give to physical appearance to mental health instead, our loved ones, work colleagues, and ourselves would be in a much better place.

Have a great week
